Road to Nowhere
Road to Nowhere
Many years ago as a college freshman, before I knew the Lord, a friend of mine and I, while on some mind altering substance, decided to take a drive into the mountains:
I said, "let's take this road."
He asked, "where does it go?."
I answered "nowhere"
He replied, "I like that place." And so we went.
The Cheshire cat likewise once famously said to Alice, "If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there." That was a pretty good picture of my life at the time.
The secular world is a lot like this. They don't know where we are from, why we are here or where we are going. But they want to take everyone else along for the ride. They don't know our telos or destination. The thing is, if you don't know the destination, purpose of life, or why we are here, how can you know the right way to go? We just make up the rules for others as we go along? It's like we are being driven by someone who is not quite right in the mind to nowhere. And in real life, that is not good.
Jesus once said,, "My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but [to the skeptics Jesus said] you do not know where I come from or where I am going." (John 8:14). In the early church, Christianity was often called "The Way". This is partly because Jesus declared of Himself, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6.
Although I was headed the wrong direction, yet without deserving it, in His great mercy, I was forgiven, miraculously changed by the Spirit and transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of light. I truly am so thankful. The journey ahead is long, but it all makes sense now: our origin, why we are here and our telos. Only in Christ are blinders taken off and our true purpose here revealed.
