Persevering in His Preservation

Persevering in His Preservation

"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith." —Hebrews 12:1-2

The Christian life is often compared to a race—not a sprint, but a marathon. Scripture calls us to persevere, to remain steadfast in faith and obedience, even when the path is steep or the finish line feels distant. “If indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel” (Colossians 1:23). This perseverance is essential. It is the mark of a genuine faith, a life that clings to Christ through trials, temptations, and every circumstance.

Yet, God does not leave us to run this race in our own strength. He knows our frailty and promises to preserve us, ensuring that those He has called will reach the finish line. Jesus said, “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that I should lose nothing of all that He has given Me, but raise it up on the last day” (John 6:39). Christ Himself secures the victory for His people, holding us fast even when we feel we cannot go on.

This dual truth—that we are called to persevere and that God preserves us—is not a contradiction but a beautiful harmony. Philippians 2:12-13 captures it perfectly: “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” While we are called to press on with diligence and faithfulness, it is God who supplies the strength and guarantees the outcome.

What a comfort to know that our perseverance rests ultimately in His hands! “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).

Today, run your race with confidence—not in your own ability, but in the sustaining power of the Savior who holds you. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of your faith, and trust that He will carry you to the end.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me to persevere and for preserving me in Christ. When I grow weary, remind me that You are faithful and will complete the work You have begun in me. Help me to run this race with endurance, knowing that You will bring me safely home. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
