No Power Can Thwart His Plans
No Power Can Thwart His Plans
God’s sovereignty means no power can thwart His plans, no sin can derail His grace, and no trial can outpace His mercy.
1. No power can thwart His plans
God’s sovereignty guarantees that His purposes will always come to pass, regardless of human or spiritual opposition. He rules over all creation with absolute authority and nothing can stop Him.
-- Isaiah 46:9–10: “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose.’”
-- Daniel 4:35: “All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
-- Proverbs 21:30: "No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the LORD."
This underscores the truth that no human strategy, wisdom, or force can frustrate God’s sovereign purposes. God’s plans are unthwartable because His power and wisdom surpass all human or demonic opposition. Even human sin and rebellion cannot undermine God’s overarching plan. Joseph’s story illustrates this vividly: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive” (Genesis 50:20).
2. No sin can derail His grace
God’s grace is not dependent on human worthiness but on His sovereign choice and abundant mercy. Even the worst sins cannot exhaust His grace for those He has purposed to save.
-- Romans 5:20: “Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
-- Ephesians 2:8–9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
-- Paul himself is an example of this truth. A persecutor of the church, his life was transformed by God’s sovereign grace: “But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience” (1 Timothy 1:16).
3. No trial can outpace His mercy
Trials and suffering cannot outlast or overcome the sustaining mercy of God. His compassion and faithfulness endure through all difficulties, providing strength and hope for His people.
-- Lamentations 3:22–23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9: “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’”
-- Psalm 23:6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Even in the severest trials, God’s mercy sustains His people and accomplishes His purposes. Paul assures believers that “this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17).
