July 31st 2009

We are very pleased to announce the launch of a major redesign of Monergism.com. After many months of working with our designer and engineers, PHASE 1 of the largest Reformed Website in the world just got easier to navigate and more usable:

Monergism Directory of Theology Monergism Home Page

.

Phase 1: (Completed)

The first phase is a design and usability face lift. Significant changes you may want to note are:

1) The new Directory of Theology page has had a major overhaul. Take the time to check it out.

2) A huge improvement to the usability and navigation of the Alphabetical and Topical Indexes on the Directory of Theology Page.

3) A much more prominent daily streaming list of Monergism's "Newest Links" on the Directory of Theology Page.

4) A major redesign to the look and feel of the home page.

5) The "Weekly Features" on the home page are now much more prominent and in a larger font that is easier to read.

6) More directory categories to choose from on the home page, for ease of use.

Phase 2: (Currently in planning Stages)

Lord willing, the second phase of Monergism.com's upgrade will either be done by the end of this year or early next year. It is intended to be a major database/backend upgrade which should prove to be greatly beneficial for visitors to the site in terms of functionality and interactivity. While we are unable to provide specifics, the upgrade is intended to set Monergism.com apart as an indespensible tool for pastors, leaders, students and laypeople around the world who want to grow deeper in their knowledge and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. In the words of our engineer, Monergism.com is going to sing when PHASE 2 is done. As upgrading the backend of the website will be a very expensive proposition, please consider contributing financially to its development through CPRF, our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Augustine once said,

"God bids us do what we cannot, that we may know what we ought to seek from him."

The Law of God is not something only found in the Old Testament, and Gospel only found in the New. Rather, we find law and gospel in both Old and New Testaments. What I mean by this is that both imperatives and indicatives are found in every part of the Bible (NT and OT). This is only to say that God has always saved His people by Christ and Christ alone, yet He continues to drive them to Himself for mercy through the proclamation of of His law. The principle which Augustine speaks of above is that every imperative (command) God gives us, is not given to show us our ability, but our duty ... that we cannot even lift a finger of obedience without the grace of God. The purpose of the divine legislation is to reveal sin (or our moral inability). In Romans 3:20 the Apostle Paul confirms this when he says "...through the law comes knowledge of sin." To this, Thomas Boston once said, "The law discovers the disease, and the gospel the physician." Of course the law still exists, but because of Christ, the Christian's relationship to the law has changed as it no longer condemns us. The regenerate person loves the law, not as a savior, but because it perfectly reflects the heart of the Savior.

Thus the central purpose of Monergism.com remains the the glory of Jesus Christ held out in the sovereign grace of God in the Gospel. That apart from the regenerative work of the Spirit who unites us to the benefits of Christ, no one would natually yield to the humbling terms of the gospel. That the natural hostility of man must first be disarmed. Thus, regeneration is wholly a supernatural work, for which God deserves all the glory. We hope these upgrades to the site will help you and your families study the word of God and more deeply investigate the Person and work of Christ. May the Lord richly bless you all as you research the contents on the site.
