Monergism

Gifts of God enabling the Christian to perform his or her (sometimes specialized) service. The main word for spiritual gift, charisma, except for 1 Peter 4:10, is used only by Apostle Paul. Charisma signifies redemption or salvation as the gift of God's grace (Romans 5:15, 6:23) and a gift enabling the Christian to perform his service in the church (1 Corinthians 7:7) as well as defining a special gift enabling a Christian to perform a particular ministry in the church (1 Corinthians 12:28-31). In Christian theology, cessationism is the view that the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as tongues, prophecy and healing, ceased being practiced early on in Church history. Cessationists usually believe the miraculous gifts were given only for the foundation of the Church, during the time between the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, c. AD 33 (see Acts 2) and the fulfillment of God's purposes in history, usually identified as either the completion of the last book of the New Testament or the death of the last Apostle.

Charismatic Theology is thel belief that the gifts of the Holy Spirit have continued to this present age, specifically the sign gifts such as tongues and prophecy. Charismatics are considered either Pentecostal, Charismatic and Third Wave, although these terms sometimes are used in a general sense to include the other.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit refers to the experience that happens to a believer at conversion or after conversion during their lifetime. Pentecostals firmly believe this experience happens after conversion and cites several texts such as Acts 2, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 19. They believe the initial evidence of the Baptism is speaking in tongues only. Charismatics believe this experience can happen at conversion and afterwards. They believe any of gifts of the Spirit can be manifested during this experience would suffice of being Baptized in the Holy Spirit. Third Wavers believe this experience happens at conversion and any of the gifts present during their lifetime would say they have been Baptized in the Holy Spirit.
